UAE Launches First Open Competition for School Students in AI and Robotics

The Emirates Safer Internet Society (eSafe) has launched STOGOCOMP, marking the UAE’s first open competition in artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics for school students aged 9 to 19 years. This initiative aims to encourage students from both public and private schools to develop effective solutions that enhance the wellbeing of children within educational institutions.

In this inaugural edition, STOGOCOMP seeks to inspire innovation and creativity among students, enabling them to enhance their skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM), while expanding their knowledge in AI and robotics. The competition is a collaborative effort between eSafe and the Robotics Automation Society, two non-government organizations, and will take place at the University of Dubai, with technical support provided by Tachyon 360.

Dr Abdulla Mohamed Al Mehyas, the Chairman of eSafe, expressed pride in organizing this groundbreaking competition, which is generously funded by the Disney Company. He highlighted the collaboration with partners such as the Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) and the University of Dubai, which will host the final ceremony. He stated, “We hope STOGOCOMP will pave the way for UAE students to meaningfully contribute to the country’s vision of becoming a leading nation in artificial intelligence.”

Dr Eesa Mohammed Bastaki, the President of the University of Dubai, noted that the institution is honored to host STOGOCOMP. He mentioned that the competition aligns with their vision of promoting innovation and academic excellence, representing a crucial step in equipping youth with the necessary skills and mindset to thrive in the digital world. He expressed excitement about supporting students as they explore the endless possibilities of AI and robotics in enhancing the well-being of children in schools.

Additionally, Dr Saeed Al Dhaheri, President of the Robotics and Automation Society, emphasized that STOGOCOMP serves as an excellent platform for students to present innovative ideas that can make a significant impact.
