During a signing ceremony at Khalifa University, representatives from all parties signed the project charter. The Consortium is designed to align its research and development efforts with Abu Dhabi’s legislation and quality standards, ensuring that all innovations meet regulatory requirements.

Homaid AlShimmari, Vice-Chairman of Khalifa University Board of Trustees, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “We are pleased to partner with stakeholders on this Consortium, which supports Abu Dhabi’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint while advancing the construction sector.” He emphasized RIC2D’s commitment to developing community-beneficial solutions and highlighted that this collaboration positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in the future of building materials.

Abdulla Ahmed Alyazeedi, Acting Secretary-General of ADQCC, noted that this collaboration among various Abu Dhabi government entities will propel the development of graphene-reinforced concrete materials. He pointed out that it reflects the government’s dedication to research, development, and innovation in advanced materials, which is in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 for Sustainable Development. He also stressed the importance of ADQCC’s role in ensuring the innovative materials adhere to the highest quality and safety standards.

Dr. Salem Al Kaabi, Director-General of Operations Affairs at DMT, reinforced the commitment to work with government partners to enhance services and improve the quality of life in Abu Dhabi. He stated that this initiative strengthens efforts to embrace the latest innovations in the construction sector, thereby supporting infrastructure development and sustainability.

Khalifa University will spearhead the research and development efforts to create new products and technologies that meet industry standards. Meanwhile, DED-IDB and DMT, with the support of ADQCC, will offer regulatory guidance to ensure compliance with existing frameworks. The establishment of the GEC Consortium is a strategic move that aligns with Abu Dhabi’s goal of reducing its carbon footprint while enhancing the economic sustainability of construction materials.
