The announcement was made during a press conference at the 7th International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF) in Abu Dhabi, which is taking place from January 28 to January 30. UAEREP is specifically inviting research proposals that focus on five key areas: Optimized Seeding Materials, Novel Cloud Formation and Rain Enhancement Systems, Autonomous UAS, Limited-Area Climate Interventions, and Advanced Models, Software, and Data.
Dr. Abdulla Al Mandous, Director General of the National Centre of Meteorology, underscored the programme’s significance in tackling water security challenges. He noted that the initiative aligns with the UAE’s commitment to climate action. Additionally, Alya Al Mazrouei, Director of UAEREP, emphasized that the programme aims to advance rain enhancement technology and solutions to bolster water security both locally and globally.
Submissions for proposals are open until March 13, with pre-proposals due by March 20. Full proposals will be requested by May 20 and must be submitted by August 28. The winners of the grants will be announced in January 2026. This year marks the 10th anniversary of UAEREP, reflecting a decade of advancements in rain enhancement science. To date, the programme has allocated AED 82.6 million towards 11 successful research projects, resulting in eight patents, with three additional patents pending registration.
