The United Arab Emirates has announced plans to construct an eye hospital in Uganda, as part of the Emirates Global Hospitals programme. This initiative falls under the Zayed Humanitarian initiative and aims to improve healthcare access in the region. The project, which will be situated in Entebbe, is projected to cost approximately Dh20 million (around $5.4 million).

On Friday, an agreement was signed between the UAE and Uganda to formalize this project. The signing ceremony was attended by Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Deputy Chairman of the Emirates Aid Agency, and Vincent Bagiri Waiswa, Permanent Secretary of the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This collaboration highlights the UAE’s commitment to contributing to global healthcare advancements.
The Emirates Global Hospitals programme has a broader goal of establishing 10 specialized hospitals across various continents within the next decade. This ambitious plan reflects the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed and underscores the importance of international partnerships in enhancing medical services worldwide.
