Ras Al Khaimah Introduces Smart Vehicle Impoundment System Starting January 20

Starting January 20, 2024, drivers in Ras Al Khaimah will have a new option for managing impounded vehicles. The emirate’s police announced the launch of the “Smart Home Vehicle Impoundment System,” which allows vehicle owners to request that their cars be impounded at a location of their choice instead of a traditional impound yard. This service will apply to all types of vehicles and most traffic violations, enhancing both flexibility and accessibility for drivers.

The new system will ensure that while the vehicle is under the owner’s supervision, it will still be subject to electronic monitoring. This measure is designed to prevent any unauthorized movement from the designated impound location, thereby upholding the regulations set forth by the Ministry of Interior. Major General Ali Abdullah bin Alwan Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police, highlighted that this initiative will help alleviate the pressure on existing impound yards and emphasizes the use of advanced technologies for compliance.

Other emirates in the UAE also provide similar smart impounding services. Vehicle owners are encouraged to stay informed about how to request a smart seizure of their cars in the event of an impoundment. This innovative approach aims to streamline the process and improve the overall experience for drivers in the region.
