Airline ticket prices have dropped by more than 47% for some major destinations, according to travel industry officials. The significant decrease comes after a sharp rise of up to 100% during the New Year and holiday season, as demand for travel has slowed following the end of the first semester break and holiday period.
Salah Khaled Salem, General Manager of Al Yasmeen Travel and Tourism, told Emarat Al Youm that round-trip tickets to key Arab destinations, which previously cost between AED 2,300 and AED 2,400 during the New Year rush, have now fallen to AED 1,200–1,300, marking a 47% drop. Similarly, tickets to European destinations that peaked at AED 3,500 have now decreased to AED 2,300, with further reductions expected in the coming days.
Alaa Al Ali, CEO of Nirvana Holding Group, attributed the decline to a drop in travel demand as students return to school and holiday breaks end in many countries. He noted that airlines are offering discounts to encourage bookings and predicted ticket prices will continue to fall by 20–30% until mid-March, depending on the travel destination and date.
Taher Issawi Al-Sheikh, Sales Manager at Happy Line Tourism and Travel, highlighted similar trends. For example, tickets from a major Arab destination dropped from AED 2,500 to AED 1,400, while prices from an Asian destination declined from AED 1,800 to AED 1,200, a 33% reduction.
Travel companies expect ticket prices to remain low until mid-Ramadan, after which they are likely to climb again as demand increases ahead of the Eid al-Fitr holiday. This period is typically marked by a surge in travel activity.
