Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Visits First Al Ain Dates Festival

H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Ain Region, attended the inaugural Al Ain Dates Festival, held at Al Hili Oasis under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court.

As reported by WAM, during his visit, Sheikh Hazza toured key historical sites, including Al Hili Tower and Bin Raeh Tower, where he learned about their role in safeguarding local farms and supporting the aflaj irrigation system. He praised the efforts to preserve these significant landmarks.

At Al Hili Oasis, Sheikh Hazza explored its contributions to traditional agriculture and its importance to Emirati heritage. He also visited the Photo Archive Exhibition, which highlighted the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s initiatives in cultivating palm trees and advancing agriculture in the UAE.

The festival featured displays of traditional palm crafts, such as surood mats, saffa baskets, and hand fans, as well as date-based dishes. Sheikh Hazza also toured the Sararid Heritage Passage, which combines Emirati heritage with artisanal craftsmanship.

Concluding his visit, Sheikh Hazza observed the traditional dates mazayna and auction competitions, acknowledging their role in promoting excellence in date production. He emphasized the festival’s significance in empowering farmers, advancing agriculture, and strengthening food security.

Sheikh Hazza expressed gratitude to President H.H. Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his support of heritage initiatives. He also praised the collaborative efforts of the festival’s organisers and participants, highlighting the palm tree as a symbol of Emirati generosity and identity.

The event was attended by several officials, including Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Chairman of the Department of Community Development, and Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
