The Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) have signed an agreement to work together on advancing sustainable and green urban development in the UAE. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), reported by WAM, focuses on promoting climate-resilient cities and accelerating efforts toward the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 commitments.
The partnership will leverage expertise from both public and private sectors to address key challenges in creating sustainable urban environments. It will focus on implementing green building practices, developing sustainable infrastructure, and driving innovation in urban planning.
Speaking about the collaboration, Khaled Bushnaq, Chairman of EmiratesGBC, emphasized the importance of collective efforts in achieving the nation’s Net Zero goals. He highlighted the opportunities for knowledge-sharing and skill-building that this partnership would bring, allowing for faster adoption of sustainable practices across the UAE.
Representatives from the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment also attended the signing ceremony, underscoring the significance of this cooperation for the UAE’s sustainability agenda.
The partnership will include various initiatives such as workshops, training programs, and knowledge-exchange events to educate professionals in the building sector. Pilot projects will also be launched to showcase practical solutions for green buildings and sustainable urban development.
Mahamadou Tounkara, GGGI’s Director for the Middle East and North Africa Region, praised the UAE’s leadership in sustainable development and reaffirmed GGGI’s commitment to helping the country achieve its ambitious goals. He noted that the collaboration would provide tools and resources to empower stakeholders and promote greener urban spaces.
This partnership is a step forward in creating a more sustainable and climate-friendly built environment, aligning with the UAE’s broader environmental goals.
